Street Level: The Bowery
Emmy Award–Winning Digital Series for Spectrum News NY1
Street Level: The Bowery was special. Not just because it helped launch what would become an Emmy Award–winning digital series, but because I was trusted to help build it from scratch.
I came on as Producer and Director of Photography for what was the very first episode created.
At the time, the digital team at Spectrum News NY1 was still being formed, and the show didn’t technically exist yet. After working on promotional content for the network, I was invited into this new space and asked to help make something—with no outline, no prior format, just vision. I ended up shooting roughly 80% of the footage and collaborated closely with the creative team to shape both the story and visual tone in real time.
With The Bowery as our subject, we set out to do more than just trace its past. We wanted to examine its layers—the vibrant art scene, the social contradictions, and the often-overlooked racial undertones tied to its early history in entertainment. But most importantly, we aimed to show that The Bowery still lives—that its creative legacy hasn’t disappeared, it’s simply evolved. Through artists, archivists, and longtime locals, we captured a neighborhood still fighting to preserve its soul.
As Spectrum News described it, “Every true New Yorker knows… the Bowery has played host to New York’s edgiest acts.” Read more →
Street Level: The Bowery was a creative risk that paid off. I’m proud of the work, not just because it led to industry recognition, but because it represents something that didn’t exist before.
