On The Frontlines

Docuseries for The Grio

On The Frontlines was a 10-episode docuseries created during one of the most pivotal years in recent history.

As Editor and Visual Story Architect, I shaped the full 10-episode series, crafting the pacing, emotional tone, and visual rhythm that connected each episode. I also worked closely with the team to guide the narrative direction and ensure each subject’s truth was honored.

Set against the backdrop of a global pandemic, a national racial reckoning, and a high-stakes presidential election, On The Frontlines explored what it meant to survive and serve in 2020—particularly in Black communities. As theGrio framed it:

“Black communities are no stranger to fighting on the frontlines of social and political change, but 2020 redefined what those frontlines look like—everyday parents, teachers, healthcare workers, and artists all trying to maintain their lives while fighting for a better future.”

With production halted globally, we leaned into resourcefulness—conducting every interview over Zoom. What could’ve been a limitation became an opportunity—to center the voices of real people navigating unimaginable circumstances, captured in the rawest, most intimate way possible.

The series featured perspectives from cultural leaders like Tanya Fields, Brittney Packnett-Cunningham, Dyllon Burnside, Dr. Jackie Walters, Ty Hobson-Powell, and Marley Dias—each contributing thoughtful insight into what it meant to serve, survive, and stay grounded in community.

The series was released on Facebook Watch, where it garnered close to 30K in total views. Our top-performing episodes sparked powerful conversations around parenting Black daughters during a global crisis, and how COVID reshaped systems like education, healthcare, and activism.

On The Frontlines was more than a docuseries—and I’m proud to have helped shape a project that centered humanity, amplified essential voices, and offered healing when it was needed most.
